Simplicity

She was pouring coffee. Just pouring a cup of coffee. Such an ordinary act. But she made it extraordinary. She always made everything extraordinary.

A smile lit her face, pale skin framed by dark hair sleeked back, as she exchanged pleasantries with the customer. She put down the coffee pot, turned back, met Jake’s gaze.

His breath caught in his throat. She was coming over, hand reaching into her pocket for her order pad, moving with the grace with which she always did everything. He felt clumsy, foolish, unworthy….

“What’ll it be?”
